Its crew module -- the only component that returns to Earth -- will squeeze two to six astronauts, with food and equipment, into 316 cubic feet (8.9 cubic meters) of habitable volume. That's one-third more elbow room than Apollo's crew compartment. Behind it, a service module will provide fuel and thrust, mount instruments and store air, water and cargo.
