To find out what music is selling in record stores, Billboard goes to SoundScan. Nielsen SoundScan is an information system that tracks the sales of music and music videos throughout the United States and Canada. By scanning the bar codes, they can collect sales information from cash registers each week from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant, and non-traditional sources such as online stores, concert sales, etc. The data is compiled. Available for subscribers every Wednesday. Like BDS data, the data from SoundScan is also very valuable for record companies, artists, concert promoters, and retailers. Billboard's methodologies for compiling the charts have gone through several changes over the years. Since switching to Nielsen's BDS and SoundScan (see below for a little background), Billboard changed the weighting of airplay versus sales. Because tracking a single song through album sales isn't exactly accurate, singles sales have always been used to track the sales side of song popularity.|Children collect candy while trick or treating. It's no wonder that many people worldwide believed (or still believe) this season is a time when the spirits of the dead come back to walk the earth. And it's no surprise that so many of us, even the supposed adults, still get giddy about Halloween. But every year around this time, social media becomes clogged with news articles and recycled memes warning parents against drugs snuck into Halloween candy or of the satanic origins of trick or treat. Sometimes parents don't know what to believe. So let's debunk five of the biggest Halloween myths out there. This is, by far, the most pervasive myth associated with Halloween. The fear that some local lunatic is slipping pins or razor blades into his homemade candy apples is so widespread that medical centers and police stations routinely offer free X-rays of Halloween treats.
Modern cars are designed so that a precise amount of air enters the engine, is mixed with fuel vapor, and then flows into the cylinders for combustion. A number of devices on the market claim to enhance this process, often through the use of a vortex generator added to the intake. The claim behind these devices is that they'll improve the mixing of fuel and air, helping increase efficiency and horsepower. The truth of the matter is that these devices often disrupt airflow, changing the intake conditions from what engineers intended. Modern cars' engine management computers compensate for this by adjusting fuel flow -- in some cases, by injecting more fuel than necessary to account for the altered airflow. All of these devices are marketed on the claim that they cause the fuel to behave differently, essentially making it possible to burn fuel with more efficiency. These products' manufacturers claim that this change makes fuel burn faster.
Environment mapping is no less amazing. Simple in concept, it means that reflections of objects are rendered and mapped onto the reflecting surface. The sheer amount of calculating that is done by the graphics processor to determine the angle and transparency for each reflected object, and then render it in real time, is extraordinary. An incredible number of calculations have to happen for every single polygon in a game. And there can be over a hundred thousand polygons on the screen at any given time! The games come on proprietary ROMs housed in plastic cartridges. You turn the power on. The console loads portions of the operating system from ROM into RAM. The game initialization sequence is loaded into RAM. You interact with the game via the controller. As each specific part of the game is requested, the application code, video, audio and hardware-render geometry are loaded into RAM. The CPU coordinates everything. It receives the input from the controller, pulls the data from RAM and directs the graphics and audio processing.|We invite them into our homes, become deeply invested in their personal and romantic lives, and follow their stories as if our own destinies are at stake. We understand, of course, that they are the mere figments of writers' imaginations, and yet we expect the relationships between our favorite TV characters to strike an elusive balance between too real and not real enough. Too real is boring. We might as well turn off the television. Talk to our own spouses. But too unrealistic can be a problem, also, interrupting our suspension of disbelief long enough for us to realize that the characters and their relationships would never fly in real life. Acoustic levitation allows small objects, like droplets of liquid, to float. Unless you travel into the vacuum of space, sound is all around you every day. But most of the time, you probably don't think of it as a physical presence. You hear sounds; you don't touch them. The only exceptions may be loud nightclubs, cars with window-rattling speakers and ultrasound machines that pulverize kidney stones. But even then, you most likely don't think of what you feel as sound itself, but as the vibrations that sound creates in other objects. The idea that something so intangible can lift objects can seem unbelievable, but it's a real phenomenon. Acoustic levitation takes advantage of the properties of sound to cause solids, liquids and heavy gases to float. The process can take place in normal or reduced gravity. In other words, sound can levitate objects on Earth or in gas-filled enclosures in space.
You should also add one or two new methods to try instead. For example, a report done on a failed ad campaign may reveal that the success factor was determined by surveys conducted on a sample population. Analytical reports display a detailed analysis of the information collected through the research methods employed. As you know, the report was built to sort out a specific issue and decide on alternative methods to try. So, it would help if you analyzed the success or failures of the solutions you tried in the first place. To understand the analysis process better, imagine you’re writing an analytical report on obeying speed limits. You’re assessing and comparing the success and failure of formerly proposed solutions: constructing speed bumps, posting speed limit signs, or using police traffic stops. Analysis of the information you’ve gathered by trying these methods can help you tell which one was the most effective for your business. You may even find out that a combination of two methods brought you the most success. Lastly, your analytical report should include solution recommendations. And, it would help if you placed these solutions at the bottom of your report. By coming up with a few recommendations, you’ll be able to make data-based decisions instead of guessing. What’s the Most Important Aspect of Analytical Reporting? Although plain data isn’t enough to solve the problem, it does provide the necessary tools to make informed decisions. Even if you don’t get the expected results, data helps you explain and justify your situation.
