Members of the wolf-like group include wolves, coyotes and jackals, which are all closely related. Observing the diversity of dogs and wild canids, scientists like Charles Darwin reasoned that different types of dogs might be descended from different types of wild canids. However, modern DNA analysis shows us that dogs are descended only from wolves. In the next section, we'll look at how this evolution might have happened. Even if it's clear that dogs are descended from wolves, it is less obvious how this came about. The conventional view, and one widely represented in both fiction and nonfiction, is that prehistoric people took wolf pups from their dens and reared them to think of people as their "pack." These tamed wolves lived with people and reproduced. The people that cared for them treasured individuals with odd coats or heavier bone structure, which might have meant death in the wild. Over time people began to breed these wolf-dogs selectively until they eventually created the diversity of dogs we see today.|The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument in central Montana is home to an array of plant life, wildlife and unique geology. On April 26, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing the Department of the Interior to review all national monuments created since Jan. 1, 1996 that contain more than 100,000 acres. The executive order could put more than 20 national monuments created by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, in jeopardy. The monuments include a vast array of landscapes and historical sites. Trump was referring to the 1906 Antiquities Act, which gives presidents the power to limit public use of land for historic, cultural and scientific reasons, by naming the areas as national monuments. President Teddy Roosevelt signed it into action. National monuments are usually smaller than national parks, and protect one "nationally significant resource," while national parks are designed to preserve many natural resources.
Acoustic levitation allows small objects, like droplets of liquid, to float. Unless you travel into the vacuum of space, sound is all around you every day. But most of the time, you probably don't think of it as a physical presence. You hear sounds; you don't touch them. The only exceptions may be loud nightclubs, cars with window-rattling speakers and ultrasound machines that pulverize kidney stones. But even then, you most likely don't think of what you feel as sound itself, but as the vibrations that sound creates in other objects. The idea that something so intangible can lift objects can seem unbelievable, but it's a real phenomenon. Acoustic levitation takes advantage of the properties of sound to cause solids, liquids and heavy gases to float. The process can take place in normal or reduced gravity. In other words, sound can levitate objects on Earth or in gas-filled enclosures in space.|DONETSK, Ukraine, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin was set to oversee exercises by strategic nuclear missile forces on Saturday as Western leaders gathered in Munich, fearful that he could order troops massed on Ukraine's border to invade at any time. Russian-backed separatist leaders in eastern Ukraine declared a full military mobilisation, a day after ordering women and children to evacuate to Russia, citing the threat of an imminent attack by Ukrainian forces. Kyiv flatly denied the accusation and Washington said it was part of Russia's plan to create a pretext for an invasion of Ukraine. Multiple explosions could be heard on Saturday morning in the north of the separatist-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, a Reuters witness said. The origin was not immediately clear. Ukraine said earlier that one of its soldiers had been killed. Russia ordered the military buildup while demanding NATO stop Kyiv ever joining the alliance but says predictions it is planning to invade Ukraine are wrong and dangerous.
To alleviate the limitation mentioned above, we propose a Reading-strategy Inspired Visual Representation Learning (RIVRL) model. We are inspired by the reading strategy of humans, where humans typically preview text with a quick glance to obtain an overview of the text, and then intensively read it with the text overview to gain a deeper understanding. Our hypothesis is that if one model first briefly knows the video overview, it will help the model understand the video more deeply. Therefore, our proposed video representation model consists of two branches: a previewing branch and an intensive-reading branch, as illustrated in Fig 1 (c). The previewing branch is implemented as a lightweight video encoder, which is designed to briefly capture the overview information of videos. By contrast, the intensive-reading branch is implemented as a relatively heavy video encoder, which is designed to obtain more in-depth information. The key point is that the earlier generated representation from the previewing branch is then integrated into the representation learning of the intensive-reading branch.|A hatchling Rapetosaurus as compared to newborn mammals. Babies! They're so cute! And one thing we find so endearing about our own offspring is how different they look from us as adults. But while human babies have different proportions than adults of our species, that's not the case for all animals. Think of baby horses, for instance, on their feet and tottering around within a few hours birth. Though a foals is not exactly a perfect match for an adult, it's pretty darn close. And now new research shows that the largest dinosaurs that ever lived also hatched with similar proportions, shedding life on the different ways dinosaurs evolved to live and socialize. New fossil analysis published today in the journal Science shows that hatchling titanosaurs came out of the egg with proportions very close to what they'd have when full grown. Researchers examined fossils of the titanosaur Rapetosaurus krausei, which was not the largest of the titanosaurs, the largest land animals that we know of, but could still grow to 50 feet (15 meters) in length and weigh about the same as a modern-day elephant.

We'll show you how to narrow down your options, find the right phone, carrier and plan for you so you end up with the right smartphone -- and maybe even some money left in your pocket. A visitor examines an HTC smartphone at the Vodafone stand at the CeBIT Technology Fair on March 3, 2010 in Hannover, Germany. This seems like a pretty silly statement, but the first step in picking the right smartphone is to make sure you actually need one. Smartphones are expensive, and so are the coverage plans they require. It's easy to use more data than your plan allows. Wind up with expensive overage charges. Even if you don't go over, you could end up paying for a data plan that you barely use. So, how do you know if you need a smartphone? Look at how you use your current cell phone. Maybe you only use your phone for talking. The occasional text message.
